Monday April 20 saw over 35 Cambridge Running Club members line up in Hopkinton for the 119th running of the Boston Marathon.
After the “snowiest winter in Boston’s history,” was there any question that weather would play a role in this year’s race? It was a cool, overcast, rainy day with a mix of a little wind, but that didn’t stop many great races by CRC.
Rachel Coogan smashing her goal of sub-3 with a 2:54:37
Bernat Olle returning after a scare in New Bedford to “crush the last 3 miles” and finishing in 2:41:01, including a 5:30 mile 26.
Patrick Doran running a 2:52:11 while simultaneously collecting signatures on his cast!
Trenni “Betsy” Kusnierek exorcising some demons from 2014, then getting up early on Tuesday to share her experience with all of the listeners of 98.5 The Sports Hub.
Nancy Varney BQ’ing in her first Boston Marathon.
Alex Solimano enjoying the Scream Tunnel from the other side of the pen for the first time.
And first time marathoner Sean “Hodor” McEwan absorbing everything the Boston course could throw and giving it right back with the heat only Sean is capable of serving up.
Meanwhile, at the CRC viewing party…spectators witnessed:
Many happy and excited CRC runners!
A beer chugging Victoria.
A shiny ring finger on Brittany.
A Jay Salony sighting (in street clothes – let’s not get ahead of ourselves).
Congratulations to everyone. Special thanks to Scott Cody, the Officers, the Social Committee – including Jon Puz and Erik Edgar for hosting Monday, Devon for organizing the team bus, Rachel for organizing the BAA volunteering, everyone who hosted a long run, volunteered at the supported runs, and all of CRC for training together and supporting each other for another successful marathon.
