James Joyce Ramble 10K
Dedham, MA
April 28, 2008
Under the kind of cloudy, rain-threatening skies that put a chill into spectators, but make for ideal racing conditions, 12 CRCers put in good times on Sunday at the Ramble. Fortunately the rain stopped well before race time, never to appear again. Andrew Goldthorp, for one, put in a 10K PR! Placements in divisions ranged from fantastic to very respectable all around! The course was, as always, challenging in its own way, with the bulk of the hilly terrain coming in the mid-section through the Nobel and Greenough School grounds.
The Joyce readers of course smoothed the way once again with their readings from Joyce works along the route. It's hard to put a finger on just what this does to the typical runner's experience and performance ....... but why not?! The authenticity award has to go to the guy they stationed under the MBTA bridge near Dedham Ctr. He looked and sounded like he could have just come from having a few pints at a Dublin pub back in Joyce's day .... maybe with Joyce himself!
Anyway, this was a great turnout for CRC to start off the spring/summer season! Congratulations to everyone who ran. Let's keep the racing spirit growing!
