Sunday March 16, 2008 marked a day of true greatness and several CRC members made the long and arduous trip to Somerville MA to take part in Ras Na Heireann USA 5K. The racing conditions were perfect so the stage was set for a great race.

That is exactly what happened, CRC had a great race with several outstanding performances. Jenn Campbell tore up the race course finishing as the third overall female a few seconds behind the female winner, one of Ireland’s top female distance runners. Nice job Jenn.

Pat Bazinet crushed his previous 5k PR by just over a minute and a half while turning in a blazing time. Axel Bierstedt overcoming some early week burnout pulled out the big guns and coasted to the finish line in impressive fashion. Mich Zenko flew into the finish with another strong performance as usual. Tara Connelly represented her Irish roots by Irish jigging into the finish with an awesome time. Geoff Philbrick trucked up from Wrentham to show us city folks how it’s done in the burbs by beating his goal pace handily. Running two races a week apart is not an easy job, well this is exactly what Heather Martin, Jacob Reibel and Raelee Poremba did coming off impressive performances in the North shore 30K/10.5K the week before to do it again in Somerville. Both Shannon Stecher and Phil Michael set the pace for the rest of the field with solid performances. Dave McGill rounded out CRC performance in top fashion posting another excellent time.

Overall, CRC had a tremendous turnout. Congrats to all who ran and if I missed anyone, please let me know and I will adjust the report accordingly.
