Race
marked its 50th anniversary, served again for the selection of the US Mountain Running team, and saw an extraterrestrial new women’s course record from an Ethopian that had to borrow her running shoes at the last minute. CRC had a record turnout at the event, with a 40+ strong contingent including runners and volunteers. A bright sunny day graced the spectators and left comical tan lines on the runners’ skin and pain in their legs.
got a full 7.6-mile-12% grade-4650 foot-vertical rise-serving of goodness to go. You can conquer this summit, but not without being brought down to your knees by the mountain. It will query your sense of worth at each painful step and leave you feeling absolutely empty.
open team taking home a 5th place award, which qualifies the team for next year’s race, and the women’s team coming in an impressive 6th, just 5 minutes short of a waiver (women, CRC will get this next year). Congratulations to all the finishers on a superb effort and a great accomplishment. As many of you noted, this race can be mentally tougher than a marathon.
