Steamtown Marathon (10/11/2009)

Steamtown Marathon
Scranton, PA
October 11, 2009

The CRC took Scranton by storm this weekend! Race weather was ideal and everything was extrememly well organized. As an added bonus, several CRC members were on the course cheering on the runners. Huge thanks to Justin Verdirame, Ethan Danahy, Kristina Buenafe, Jenn Campbell, and an assortment of parents, spouses, significant others and Dunder Mifflin employees who offered enthusiastic support. They were all a cheering force with thundersticks, cow bells, signs, sidewalk chalk, and screaming voices.

With all of the cheering and great conditions, it's no surprise that the CRC runners turned in some fast times! Huge PRs were set by Heidi, Ting, Brent, Amanda, Joe, Kaitlin, Nick and Chad. Mark nabbed a qualifying time for Boston. And Bill turned the marathon into an all day endurance event by rising at 2am (due to maintenance issues in his hotel room), running a solid time in the marathon, post-partying, and driving back to Boston by about 1am the next morning. Kaitlin finished 2nd in the women's field earning herself a nice chunk of prize money. Chad and Nick were 6th and 9th overall, both taking home age group awards. And Amanda took top honors in her age group. Unfortunately, Mike McKechnie battled some stomach issues on race day and had to bow out of the race around mile 17. He hopes to roll his training into some other upcoming fall races.

At the post-race party, we all enjoyed free Yuengling's on tap from America's oldest brewery along with tater tots, chicken tenders and pizza. Several CRCers also took advantage of the delayed onset of muscle soreness by cutting a rug on the dance floor to the tunes of "Take Five" -- the official band of the Steamtown Marathon. Joe won a $100 gift certificate in the raffle which he promises to spend on short shorts. After the post race party, we descended upon Main Ave. Ice Cream for some well deserved cones, shakes and sundaes. Then we headed to Marvelous Mugg's for a final round of beers to celebrate the day.

It was a great weekend! Thanks to everyone who contributed to the fun!
