Lone Gull 10K

CRC joined a very competitive field of runners in Gloucester on Sunday for a spectacular race along the ocean. The Lone Gull 10K was the New England 10K championship race, hence the large number of fast runners. Conditions were ideal for racing with little wind, temp around 60, and brightly sunny sky. The first and last 1.5 miles of the course ran flat along the section of coast known as Bass Rocks. The central portion followed more undulating terrain through the land of the rich, and possibly famous, on Eastern Point, including another flat mile section along the beach beside Gloucester Harbor.

Of performances known to me, Hank Scollard set a 10K PR and Emily McCloskey set a benchmark for herself in her first 10K. I was strongly reminded prior to the race that several CRCers had also done the 20 mile long run on Saturday and would take no responsibility for their results here. Regardless of outcomes, it seemed that everyone was enjoying the great late summer day and the superb Good Harbor Beach start and finish location. The race was very well organized and apres-race cuisine included eggs, bacon, and sausage among other brunch delights. However, not totally satisfied by these culinary offerings, the CRC group headed just up the road to Amelia's outdoor deck to finish the matter.
