Around Cape Ann 25/7k

CRC put the "labor" back in Labor Day yesterday, with strong performances on tough courses at the Around Cape Ann 25k and Run the Goose 7k. Both races started and finished in Gloucester. The 7k covered a moderately hilly course around Goose Cove reservoir. The 76th annual 25k ran all the way around Cape Ann, through Gloucester and Rockport, and over "16 crazy hills" (but who's counting?).

Despite the hills, CRC turned in a set of strong performances, with a number of PR's and a few pieces of hardware.

25k: Leading the way in the 25k, as usual, was Hank "Wrong Turn" Scollard, who finished second for the second year in a row, and left with some walking-around money. Dan had a great race, Jay snuck away with an age group plaque, and I believe Mo set a 25k PR. On the women's side, Meredith ran well as an unattached runner, while Carine, Rebecca, and Emily took 5th place in the team competition... for "CRR". (The race timers very graciously apologized for this small mix-up, and promised to code us differently next year.) Great races, everyone.

7k: Every CRC participant in the 7k walked away with hardware. Kevin "Gravy Train" Gravina took 5th overall and 3rd in his division, and Jason Wu made a strong CRC debut at 2nd in his division. Carrie was 2nd in her division, and Krista was 3rd. Four for four! Great work to all, and thanks for cheering for the 25k runners once your race was finished.

A big thanks to Coach Scott Cody for taking time on a holiday to come up and support us. Also thanks to Bayen, who biked the course and cheered.

After the race, Jay's parents hosted an embarrasingly over-the-top brunch of lobster rolls, lobster omelettes, baked goods, fresh fruit, and beer.
