Around Cape Ann 25/7k

A strong contingent of CRC runners traveled to Gloucester on Monday for the 75th annual Around Cape Ann 25k road race. The race, billed as "one of America's oldest, toughest, & most scenic races", features 16 "significant hills" over a 15.5-mile loop course along the coast of Cape Ann, starting and finishing at the famous O'Maley Middle School.

Despite all of those hills, a number of CRC runners had great races. Hank came in second overall (and apparently took home some cash, so he's buying the beers after track this week). Paul had a great race. Alana came in 3rd in her age group and was the 4th female overall, taking home some hardware. Bethany, Geoff, Jake, James, and Thomas all set 25k PR's (I think - correct me if I'm wrong). Kristina ran well in her first CRC race. Eileen (who is a twenty-something woman, and not a 30-39 year old man, as the results suggest) ran almost 5 minutes faster than she ran last year. On the Junior Circuit, Jay and Jon had a nice 7k run around Gloucester's Goose Cove reservoir in the "Run the Goose 7k". CRC members Emily Pilotte and Walden Pilotte took it all in.

After the race, much of the group stopped by Jay's parents' house in Gloucester for some breakfast, evidence that the cooking gene skips a generation. Emily provided cupcakes, which replaced most of the calories that Paul burned during his impressive 25k. Hank drank the party's only two beers.
