Mattapoisett Road Race 5 miler Mattapoisett MA 7/4/08 Erin and Matt placed in their divisions and Matt almost won it all. I hope I didn't miss anyone. For your entry fee you get timed (gun time only) and a cotton T-shirt. They did run out of safety pins this year for on-site registration which was the only downside so you may wish to bring your own pins. It's definitely a race worth considering if you happen to be around next 4th of July. As an added bonus next year it won't the day after track which means you can get more than 12 hours recovery time... They were clearly expecting warmer weather since there must have been a water stop every half mile or so plus a couple of locals with hoses misting runners so inclined. The total field was just over 1000 runners and they were accepting registrations until gun time essentially. There are a couple of hills but generally followed by flat or downhill segments plus some interesting right-angle turns along the course. If you're starting towards the back of the pack, I'd move up some as the way the start is arranged, people lining up later on file in towards the front of the pack. The suggested times on the signs posted on the side of the starting area aren't really very close to what people were running.
